February 2003. Leonardo Notarbartolo spent three years as a tenant of the Antwerp Diamond Centre, waiting for the right weekend. When it came, the vault gave up 109 of its 189 boxes.
Heavyweight 400gsm brushed cotton. A single embroidered diamond on the chest, nothing else on the outside. The hood carries a built-in balaclava: pull it out and it drops over your face, leaving an eye slit. Tuck it away and nobody can tell it's there.
Three more things are built in where nobody looks. Even the drawcord tips are keeping something to themselves.
$100 million. Most of it never recovered.
